The San Lorenzo House is a prototype for a new kind of luxury.  A luxury that is honest, that shows off the natural beauty of materials and clearly demarcates the home’s functions.  For example, the wet areas—the bathrooms of the house, which are the most immovable part of the house, and which are also the “service” areas of the house, are contained within board-formed concrete towers, left unpainted, to show off concrete’s natural beauty.  This is contrasted to the openness of the “served” areas, which are left deliberately open, surrounded with glass walls suspended between parallel floors and ceilings, decked in natural solid Giant Ipil.  The upstairs rooms are surrounded with wraparound balconies, in response to the tropical climate, blocking out sun and rain yet letting in light and air.

All the materials used are of the best kind, and of the sustainable kind.  The Giant Ipil comes from farms located in Northern Luzon, a highly durable and renewable resource.  The tiles are from Milan, Italy, and the glass comes from a manufacturer of Automotive Glass, to ensure the highest quality. Everything is left in its natural state, with very little paint used in the construction of this house.
